Frequently Asked Questions

What is the different between Myotherapy and Remedial Massage?
Myotherapy is essentially an extension of Remedial Massage with at least an extra year of initial training.  Both aim to reduce pain and increase mobility. Myotherapy generally involves a more thorough assessment, more active participation from the client and provides a greater range of therapeutic techniques in the tool-kit. It is also more geared to identifying the root cause and finding resolution. Treatment applications may include remedial massage, dry needling, joint mobilisation, exercise and movement therapy and rehabilitation planning. It is an effective aid in the prevention, assessment, early intervention and treatment of pain and the ongoing management of chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

Brief summary of the bodywork options available at Vitality Lab:

Spa Style Treatments- deeply relaxing, flowing massage for stress relief, general tension. Can include aromatherapy and energy work (Reiki).

Therapeutic massage- deep tissue, whole body treatment for pain relief and general tension.

Remedial Massage- massage therapy specific areas of concern with range of motion and postural review. Provides relief from symptoms and encourages healing.

Naturopathic Remedial Massage- 'whole person' treatment with specific massage techniques and recommendations to address digestive issues, headaches, insomnia, stress, anxiety, chronic inflammation. Lymphatic massage and safe Oncology massage can also be included.

Myotherapy- in addition to remedial massage, service includes thorough testing, greater treatment options, and more geared to finding the cause.

Can I claim health rebates?
It depends on your level of cover, but most extras health insurance will cover Myotherapy and Remedial Massage and practitioners are registered providers with all health funds.  This only applies for in-clinic sessions- online and mobile are not covered at this stage.  Rachel is registered with ARHG (including St Lukes) and CBHS health funds for Nutrition consultations. As of 2019 Naturopathy is no longer covered.

Where are you?
We operate from a lovely clinic space at the Wellbeing Centre located upstairs in the House of Prana in George St, Launceston.  We also offer online consultations, so no matter where you are we can offer you care.  If you have mobility issues and are looking for physical therapy, our mobile services are available to the Launceston area- please give us call to discuss your requirements.
